80 Years in Motion
My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
but ah, my foes,
and oh, my friends-
It gives a lovely light.

A Milestone Celebration: Richard MacDonald's 80 Years in Motion
This past June 5th and 6th, more than 600 collectors, friends, family members, and supporters traveled from around the world to Richard MacDonald Studios in Monterey, California, to celebrate an extraordinary milestone - Richard MacDonald's 80th birthday and a lifetime devoted to artistic excellence.
Over two unforgettable evenings, guests experienced 80 Years in Motion, a deeply personal retrospective that traced Richard's journey from his early days as a student at ArtCenter College of Design, through his acclaimed illustration career, and into the sculptural works that have established him as one of the world's leading figurative artists.
For the first time, visitors explored original illustrations, rare archival materials, personal photographs, and many of the defining moments that shaped Richard's remarkable career. The celebration also featured live performances by world-class artists who traveled from across the globe to honor not only a renowned sculptor, but a cherished friend and collaborator.
The event marked the unveiling of several important new works, highlighted by the debut of The Three Fates (Moirai) Column, a monumental commission created for the Weavers of Change Foundation of Singapore. Guests were also introduced to newly released works including Origins Heroic, Aurora Atelier, Nightfall Heroic, Diana Earth and Moon, the three sister studies from The Three Fates, Athlete and a Kitten, and other new creations that demonstrate Richard's continued passion for innovation and storytelling.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended and helped make this celebration so meaningful. Your friendship, support, and enthusiasm have played an important role in Richard's artistic journey.
For those unable to attend, we invite you to experience many of these newly unveiled works in person at The Art of Richard MacDonald Gallery. Visitors can now view The Three Fates (Moirai) Column alongside a selection of sculptures and studies featured during the milestone celebration.
We look forward to welcoming you and sharing the next chapter of Richard MacDonald's extraordinary artistic legacy.
