Mr. MacDonald has used his extraordinary talent to capture the grace and elegance of the classic mime. No other artist has so completely documented this fascinating theme. In essence, he is presenting a silent medium within a silent medium. Steeped in centuries of tradition, mimes convey the essence of emotion while encompassing many of the physical attributes of athletes and dancers. Without speaking, the mime is able to bring a character or situation to life and express universal experience in a gesture, a movement.
The Blanc Noir Edition is an exclusively distinct collection only featuring 6 works of art. The black patina absorbs light differently. The subtle nuances of form and the resulting emotional tenor of a piece can be seen in low light, where the sheen of the black pulls out the high points of the form. In daylight, of stronger light, the richness of the blacks makes a striking statement that lifts the sculpture from its surroundings. Although the black patina has roots in classical antiquity, the striking nature of its simple aesthetic makes it a perfect contemporary statement. Black, in an environment of color (such as a home or garden) will draw the eye, making the emotional impact of the piece more dramatic.
