Richard MacDonald
Penche Monet, Column, 2019
Bronze
83" x 18" x 14.25"
After devoting more than twenty years to the perfection of the human form in bronze, Richard MacDonald focused on a series of sculptures based on his work with dancers from the London Royal Ballet. In Chroma Column, performed by Steven McRae, Richard MacDonald captures the daring physicality of modern ballet with the precisely balanced figure caught in mid-air. The 'face forward' nature of the moment chosen by the artist gives this piece a bold, daring character; powerful, confrontational and masculine.
